Solid Wastes
• Oil Filters: Used oil filters are considered hazardous waste and must be stored separately. A waste transfer form is essential for their compliant removal.
• Oily Solid Wastes: This category includes contaminated materials such as sawdust, rags, absorbents, and personal protective equipment (PPE) that have come into contact with oils or other hazardous liquids. These should be stored in designated drums and treated as hazardous waste.
• Contaminated Packaging: Containers, drums, and other packaging materials that previously held hazardous substances like solvents, paints, or chemicals.
• Paint Waste: Leftover paints, paint sludges, and residues from painting processes.
• Glues and Adhesives: Waste from various glues and adhesives used in repairs.
Pressurized and Reactive Wastes
• Waste Aerosols: Used aerosol cans often contain flammable propellants or toxic residues. Due to their pressurized nature, they pose an explosive risk and must be handled separately.
• Unused Airbags: These are hazardous due to their explosive nature and the presence of sodium azide, a toxic substance.
Liquid Wastes
• Waste Oils: This includes engine oils, transmission fluids, and other lubricants. These must be stored in suitable, UN-approved containers and never burned, as it is illegal and poses health risks. Proper waste transfer forms are required for their removal.
• Glycols and Coolants: Antifreeze and other cooling system fluids are hazardous and need to be managed separately.
• Mixed Fuels: Contaminated or expired fuels should never be mixed with waste oils. They often require specific management, especially when combined with other bodyshop wastes like cleaners, thinners, and degreasers.
• Aqueous Organic Wastes: Water-based solutions contaminated with organic compounds.
• Cutting Fluids: Used in machining processes, these fluids can contain hazardous substances.
Chemical Wastes
• Waste Solvents: Various solvents used for cleaning, degreasing, and paint thinning.
• Corrosive Wastes: This includes both acid and base materials used in different garage and bodyshop operations.
• Cleaners, Thinners, and Degreasers: Chemical products used for cleaning and surface preparation, which can be hazardous when disposed of.
